We Re-think and
Re-design Our Website(s)

The new website design of websiterevamp.org is built on database driven "portal" technology.  Fortunately, it doesn't have the major drawbacks formerly plaguing this kind of website.  We decided to change for one major reason and a number of lesser reasons:

  1. We wouldn't want to recommend to clients what we ourselves didn't use - that was a major driving force.
  2. We needed a number of functional elements which could easily be "plugged in" to this particular type of structure without going through the programming and integration steps which are a part of the usual process with conventionally designed websites.
Like our clients, we would rather spend our time running our business, not fussing with our own website!
Oh, yes, we also added www.websiterevamp.com to the stable using the same type of database  technology that we are using here.  That site will be devoted to the more technical aspects of website success.

Additional Functionally

Considering that our site was going to be an example for others to see, we decided to go "all out" with the functional aspects.  Therefore we have integrated the following into it:

  • Self-contained CMS (Content Management System):  No special software is needed to edit existing content or create new content, all you need is an Internet connection and a browser.  Webmaster skills not needed either.
We can easily have multiple content contributors.  Authors login, use the word-processor-like editor to create or change content then log-out.  Then, an Editor/Publisher checks it over, revises and "publishes" it.
  • "Reccomend Us"
  • Rotating Client Testimonials - they change with every new page
  • "Tagging" of related content much like can be done on a blog
  • Polling of visitors
  • Mailing list and newsletter manager
  • Forum software:  If we get enough people interested, we can hold virtual conversations on a number of website related subjects
  • Segmentation of content:  It's possible to present different content to different visitors.
  • Visitor registration for access to portions of the website
That is just a few of many functional additions.  We'll talk about other aspects of this technology in the near future.

More later. . .
